About
The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (FHOOE) is one of the strongest universities of applied sciences in the German-speaking world in terms of research performance. It offers 68 internationally recognized academic degree programmes across four campuses: Informatics, Communication & Media (Hagenberg), Medical Engineering & Applied Social Sciences (Linz), Business & Management (Steyr), and Engineering (Wels). The university conducts application-oriented and innovative research in 17 thematic areas, working closely with partners from industry and society.
FH OOE has participated in numerous European and national research projects, including 12 FP7 and 11 Horizon 2020 projects, coordinating seven of them. It has also contributed to more than 50 other EU-funded initiatives such as EFRE-INTERREG, SEE, ERA-Net, and EUREKA. This strong project portfolio highlights FH OOE’s capacity in both collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
A key research strength lies in the Bioinformatics Research Group, which has focused on biological data analysis since 2012. A dedicated subgroup works on computational proteomics and has developed several widely used algorithms for mass spectrometry data analysis, including MS Amanda, CharmeRT, and PhoStar. These achievements reflect FH OOE’s strong environment for training early-stage researchers in computational proteomics.
