About
The Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMIC), a major research institution with over 500 staff across five sites, is a member of BIOCEV, the European Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology and Biomedicine. Located in Vestec near Prague, BIOCEV is a joint initiative of six CAS institutes and two Charles University faculties. IMIC focuses on non-profit research into microbial and mammalian cell mechanisms, supporting both basic discovery and applications in medicine and industry. It is also part of major European research infrastructures including ELIXIR and EATRIS, and forms the Czech node of the Infrastructure for Integrative Structural Biology alongside CEITEC.
IMIC/BIOCEV offers state-of-the-art facilities for molecular biology, mass spectrometry, biophysics, imaging, and omics analyses. Key technologies include two timsTOF instruments and a 15T FTICR mass spectrometer with ETD/ECD capabilities. IMIC has extensive experience with EU-funded projects, with 160–180 grants annually, including participation in EPIC-XS and EU FTICR MS consortia. Its labs are fully independent, modern, and internationally active, making BIOCEV a prime site for cutting-edge research and advanced training in structural and computational proteomic.
