Short bio

Dr. Lukas Käll is a Professor at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. His research focuses on developing and applying advanced statistical and computational methods to mass spectrometry-based proteomics, with the overarching goal of improving peptide and protein identification. Among his notable contributions is the development of Percolator, a widely adopted open-source tool that leverages semi-supervised machine learning to increase the accuracy of peptide-spectrum matching. Dr. Käll’s lab continues to drive innovation at the intersection of bioinformatics, data science, and protein biology, creating a suite of methods employed by proteomics researchers worldwide.

Research interest

Modern biology increasingly relies on high-throughput techniques, such as proteomics, metabolomics, and transcriptomics, which generate vast amounts of data. A common challenge with these techniques is interpreting the outcomes, as individual measurements vary in quality. Our mission is to enhance the yield and facilitate the interpretation of high-throughput experiments by employing statistics and machine learning methods.
