Training the ProtAIomics Way

ProtAIomics treats training as a journey that is every bit as ambitious as its science. Sixteen doctoral candidates will move through four intertwined learning dimensions:
1. Learning-by-doing research
2. Mobility across countries, sectors and disciplines
3. Network-wide schools & workshops
4. Continuous online & local courses

ProtAIomics first Winter School

The first Winter School, held at CRG in Barcelona, delves into structural and functional proteomics. It explores how structural data can be integrated into functional insights using AI-assisted methods. In parallel, DCs enhance their communication skills through science communication workshops and prepare for public engagement via a science slam, fostering confidence in translating science to non-specialist audiences.

ProtAIomics first Summer School

The first Summer School, hosted by the University of Cambridge, introduces DCs to the core of proteomics bioinformatics. Participants receive practical training on mass spectrometry data analysis, use of public data repositories, and annotation tools. Complementary sessions cover open science, FAIR data principles, research integrity, and the creation of personal career development plans, setting the foundation for responsible and strategic research careers.

ProtAIomics second Summer School

The second Summer School, coordinated by TUM in Munich, serves as a cross-pollination hub for the network. It encourages interdisciplinary dialogue between work packages and focuses on reproducibility and transparency in AI for proteomics. Participants work through the DOME standards for machine learning and learn how to critically evaluate and design trustworthy AI models.

ProtAIomics second Winter School

The second Winter School, organised by CRG, shifts the focus toward innovation. It takes the form of a “Bio-Business School,” where DCs learn to translate research into entrepreneurial ventures. Using tools like the Business Model Canvas, they explore the pathway from scientific idea to potential start-up, reinforcing the link between science and societal application.

ProtAIomics third Summer School

The third Summer School, hosted by CRG , which emphasizes career strategy and scientific communication. DCs receive advanced training in manuscript writing, figure design, and scientific publishing from EMBO experts. They also explore the use of gamification and extended reality (XR) in science communication, equipping them with novel tools to engage broader audiences and convey complex concepts in innovative ways.
